meteoDSS Severe Weather Centers: Keeping you informed of severe weather

meteoDSS Severe Weather Centers

meteoDSS is a specialist and innovation leader in early severe weather warning and as the only private weather service operates its our own Severe Weather Centers. meteoDSS' weather experts observe the weather and provide warnings of extreme weather conditions such as storms/hurricanes, heavy rain, thunderstorms, hail, heavy snow, freezing rain and extreme temperatures worldwide in a uniform warning system up to 48 hours in advance. A perfectly adjusted four-step warning concept informs you of the intensity of the severe weather to be expected. With the help of severe weather warnings risks can be reliably minimised and planning optimised, thus saving costs. More...

Innovative warning system

meteoDSS has developed and operates an innovative warning system that can be implemented worldwide and allows all severe weather warnings to be provided with geo-coordinate accuracy. In contrast to an inflexible warning grid, meteoDSS' concept is a flexible polygon principle. This allows warnings to be defined individually and according to requirements for a defined area (e.g. post code, district), line (e.g. rail lines, power lines) or geo-coodinates (e.g. buildings). The warning thresholds can be adjusted for the individual warning levels according to customer preferences.

Sophisticated early severe weather warnings

A significant part of our warning system is our own private weather station measurement network which includes over 830 stations. All in all, our weather experts can draw on data from 17,000 weather stations worldwide. meteomedia thus has one of Europe's densest weather databases. What is more, radar, satellite and lightning data in a high spatial and temporal resolution allow a detailed view on weather situations. The basis of professional and exact severe weather forecasts is the evaluation of leading weather models - both national and international - as well as company-own prediction methods.

International severe weather warnings

meteoDSS' warning system can be implemented worldwide. meteoDSS has established the Severe Weather Center Europe based on our innovative warning system. Both individual countries in Europe and overseas territories receive warnings. The first Severe Weather Center in Asia, the Severe Weather Center Philippines is currently under construction. More Severe Weather Centers are constantly being built in other countries. Our international customers thus profit from a one-stop service for unique and reliable severe weather warnings.

In particular, the combination of up-to-date severe weather warnings and inventory data allows accurate delineation of the affected and non-affected areas and properties, thus making reliable assessment of risk possible. The combination of GIS and weather data offers all weather-dependent companies as well as fire brigades and catastrophe staff useful support.
