Weather and geographic information systems (GIS)
Many insurance solutions are impossible without using geographic information systems (GIS). This is because insurance risks are not distributed equally across the world and only the use of GIS allows detailed spatial analysis. The spatial component is crucial, especially for the assessment of natural hazards. All meteoDSS weather data can be provided for GIS integration. This way, primary and reinsurance companies can directly combine company-specific inventory data with weather data. A combination of reliable weather data and inventory data allows, among other things, accurate delineation of the affected risks as well as rapid and reliable assessment of potential damage in terms of individual and cumulative risks.

Modelled time series
Reliable knowledge of the long-term weather situation for a given location is crucial for numerous evaluations. mminternational has developed a sophisticated statistical method for modelling historical time series based on re-analysis data from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). This method makes it possible to create local time series for weather station locations. These have been re-calculated back to a minimum of 30 years (from 1979) and are available in hourly resolution and for various parameters. Furthermore, unique added value is provided by mminternational's weather station measurement network with more than 830 professional weather stations. There are around 17,000 weather stations available worldwide.
Our services
- Internationally modelled historical time series (min. 30 years)
- Complete time series in hourly resolution for diverse parameters
- Highest quality in accordance with the international WMO (World Meteorological Organization) standard
- Yearly and time series updates
- Calculation of trends and long-term expectation values
Our benefits at a glance
- Accurate statistical statements
- Accurate evaluation of local meteorological conditions

When did severe weather last occur at the site of damage? This question is answered by the severe weather day search. The severe weather day search allows you to search for the date on which severe weather occurred at a site of damage for a period of up to six months. One particular advantage of the severe weather day search is that it offers valuable support when no concrete date can be assigned to damage that has occurred. Your search parameters can include wind, precipitation, slippery road surfaces, lightning and hail. Delivery is immediate via our weather service portal in the form of an email report or PDF download.

Weather expertise
In complex cases of damage, our qualified meteorologists can create (legally valid expert) reports In addition to the measurement data from weather stations, other information sources (e.g. high-resolution radar data, lightning data and satellite images) are evaluated for detailed analysis of the weather situation on the date and at the location and surrounding area in question. This way, a reliable statement can be made as to whether there actually was a damage-causing weather event at the location in question. Additional statistical comparison values can be called up to assess how exceptional a weather event is, if required.
